North Fairfield, Ohio – Ronald C. Houghtlen, Sr. 73, of North Fairfield, Ohio, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 in his home. He was born July 20, 1944 in Norwalk, Ohio, to the late William H. and Clara L. (Sennhenn) Houghtlen, and was a lifelong area resident. Ron attended Monroeville, New London, and North Fairfield schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam, and was a member of American Legion Post #706 of North Fairfield, Ohio. He was the owner of the Country Counter Market in North Fairfield, having worked there for 25 years, and then buying it from former owner Randy Garner. Ron enjoyed fishing, tinkering on lawn mowers and motors, collecting Elvis memorabilia, playing checkers and board games, and going to Casino's. He is survived by his wife, Annette (Sprowl) Houghtlen, of North Fairfield, Ohio, by his children, Rick (Jami) Houghtlen of Fitchville, Ohio, Randall Houghtlen of Norwalk, Ohio, James (Tiffany) Houghtlen of New London, Ohio, ARyan (Heather) Houghtlen of Norwalk, Ohio, Jeremy Houghtlen of North Fairfield, Ohio, and Rebekah (Carlos) Silva of Wakeman, Ohio, 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, and by his daughter in law, Billie Jo Houghtlen of Norwalk, Ohio. Ron is also survived by his brothers, Michael "Mickey" Houghtlen of LaGrange, Ohio, Danny Houghtlen, and Thomas Houghtlen of Oregon, and by his sisters, Phyllis Hoyt of Bellevue, Ohio, and Deborah Snyder of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald C. Houghtlen Jr. in 2009, by his brothers, Larry, Robert, and James, and by his sister, Shirley Missler. Friends may call on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, where funeral services will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Bob Hudberg will officiate.
