Ronald Eugene Simonson, 84, of Wellington, died on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Keystone Pointe in Lagrange. He was born on March 31, 1942, in Lodi to the late Cloyd “Bill” and Maxine (Jameyson) Simonson and graduated from Wellington High School in 1960.
For many years, Ron worked at Simonson Painting, his family business. He later specialized in carpet and linoleum and worked at both Wellington Carpet Shop and Schultz Furniture Shop. Ron owned and operated the Wellington Mobile Home Park for 25 years.
Ron attended the Camden Baptist Church and was a member of the Wellington Eagles. In his younger years, he coached Hot Stove baseball when his son played.
He loved fishing and made many memories on his boat with his family on Lake Erie. A diehard sports fan, Ron always cheered on the Buckeyes and his Cleveland teams. Ron loved to take care of people and would always listen to their needs. Above all, he was a great man and a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Bertha (Dalton) Simonson; son, Scott Simonson; step-children, Joanna (Chad) Stanforth and John (Angela) Yaworsky; 6 step grandchildren and his siblings, Pam Wilgor and Wayne Simonson. Ron was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty (Settlemire), to whom he was married from 1961 until her death in 2002; and his brother, Dennis Simonson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8 from 4-7 pm at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 9 at 11 am with Pastor Larry Nocella officiating. Ron will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington.
