Roy E. Ropp, 90, of Nova died early Monday, May 28, 2007 at Crystal Care in Ashland.
Mr. Ropp was born October 13, 1916 in Red Haw, Ohio, son of the late, Bernard & Jennie (Yocum) Ropp. He grew up in the Sullivan area and moved to Cleveland in 1938, He moved back to Ruggles Twp. In 1949.
Mr. Ropp was a 1934 graduate of Sullivan High School. He had farmed most of his life and was a casket builder for Carter Casket Co. in Cleveland. He also drove school bus for several years.
He was a member of the Ruggles Grange and the Pamona Grange, Ashland County. A member of the Ashland County Farm Bureau and a Ruggles Twp. Trustee. He had served on the Board of Directors of the Medina Rural Electric Coop. He was a member of the New London Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by 2 sons, Jim (Kathleen) Ropp of Ashland and George (Sandy) Ropp of Van Wert, OH; a daughter, Pat Kidd of Nova; a stepson, Jim (Doreen) Stokes of Plains, Montana; 3 stepdaughters, Beth (Leroy) Sweeney of Culpeper, VA., Jeanne Bong of Key West, Florida, Joan (Mike) Moody of Nova; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, many step grandchildren, many step great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Harvey (Marvine) Ropp of Ruggles and Donald (Annie) Ropp of Dunn Eden, FL; 2 sisters, Viola (Frank) Wamack of Interlachon, Florida, and Janet (Burhl) King of Lancaster, PA. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Beatrice Edna Ropp in 1965; 2nd wife, Dolores (Jackson) Ropp; and a brother, Kenneth Ropp, his son in law, Charlie Kidd, stepson, Jack Stokes, stepdaughter, Janet Slavin.
Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London, where funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday with visitation one hour prior. Pastor John Bouquet and Rev. Donald Ropp will officiate and burial will follow in Ruggles Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
