Obituary

Rudolph "Rudy" Nerad, 86, of Wellington, died Saturday, June 8, 2013 at his home. Born in Cleveland on October 5, 1926 to the late Vaclav James and Filomena (nee Prosek) Nerad, Rudy moved to Litchfield as a young child. He lived in the Penfield and Wellington area since 1957. Rudy was a self-educated man versed in all things from carpentry to electronics and mechanics. He worked in his own Radio and TV Repair shop at 17 to help support his family. He worked for Sectional Tool and Die until a heart attack prevented his return. Not to be detoured, he opened the Fixit Shop at his home until retiring. In his later years he enjoyed listening to his favorite polka music, relaxing at home and enjoying the visits of his grandchildren. He has special names for many of them such as "Pauchie", "Oliver", "Stanley", and "Tonio." He and his wife, Mary Jane, enjoyed a marriage of 57 years residing in Wellington. For the last several years they also enjoyed Trouble, the "alert dog." Anytime he or Mary Jane hollered for the other ones' help, Trouble would alert the other by barking. Survivors include his beloved wife, Mary Jane; daughters, Marie (Matt) Faren, of Nova, Lucinda (Scott) Nipper, of WV, and Barb (Greg) Haas, of Wellington; 7 grandchildren, Amanda (Dan Springer) Sheffield, Brandi (Matt Dotson) Simpson, Tyler (Phil Scarbrough) Simpson, Shane "Parchie" (Lindsey) McRoberts, Bill (Ginnie) Smith, Stephen Smith, Bruce (Rebekah) Smith, Ryan Haas; 19 great grandchildren; several nephews and a niece. Rudy was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Nerad; brothers, Butch Nerad and Jimmy Nerad and a sister, Yarmila Cassaro. The viewing will be held at the Nerad home, 23175 West Road, Wellington, on Tuesday, June 11 from 5-8 p.m. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Son-in-law Greg Haas officiating at Penfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rudy's name are suggested to the Friendship Animal Protective League of Lorain County, 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035 or the Erie Shores Humane Society , P.O. Box 1041 , Elyria, Ohio 44036. Arrangements were entrusted to Norton-Eastman Funeral Home and condolences may be given at: www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
