Russell A. Gfell, 97, of Monroeville, Ohio, a tour guide for over 20 years for the Thomas Edison birthplace in Milan, Ohio, has undoubtedly already introduced himself personally to Mr. Edison and is probably already in charge of his heavenly historical tours.  Russell himself "toured" peacefully from this life to the next, on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.  He was under the care of the staff at Providence Care Center in Sandusky.  Russell was born on May 12, 1924, in Bellevue, Ohio to the late Albert Henry and Ada Emma (Seibel) Gfell.

He met his bride, the late Nedra Gfell at Firelands Chorus, where she played piano, and he sang.  He also played both the organ and piano and had been a treasurer for the Lyme Church for nearly 40 years, as well as a sales coordinator for Stein Associates. Russell genuinely enjoyed yardwork and took meticulous care of his gardens.

Survivors include his children, Julie (Christopher) Kristenak of Toledo, OH and Jennifer (Vincent) Kessler of Norwalk, OH; grandchildren, C.J., Kyla and Vincent Andrew.

In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his loving wife Nedra (Thompson) Gfell in 2020 and sisters, Mildred (Richard) Yingling, Roberta (Frances) Burk and Martha Jane (Mark) Burr.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, from 11 a.m. until the time of the 1 p.m. service at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk with Rev. Edgar Shelly officiating.  Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Monroeville will follow the services at the funeral home.  Those unable to attend are encouraged to leave an online condolence by visiting www.walkereastmanheydingerfh.com .  Memorial contributions may be directed to the funeral home in care of the family to assist them with ongoing expenses.
