Ruth McClave Matus, age 70, of New London, died Monday, March 16, 2009 at The Community Health Partners Hospital of Lorain after a six week illness. She was born November 25, 1938 in New London, and had lived in the area most of her life. Ruth was originally in the class of 1956, but went back to school and graduated from New London High School in 1976 with her daughter. She worked for the C.E. Ward Co. in New London. Ruth was a member of the Ohio Geneological Society, Lorain, Huron and Ashland Chapters. A member of First Families of Huron County and Wellington Alzhiemers support group. Her family was her passion and she always had kind words for everyone she met. As we have always said, Ruth never met a stranger.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Clayton Matus; daughters, Karen (James) Maiers of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, Darla (Ronald) Gow of Wellington; her brother, Donald (Alice) McClave of Haughton, Louisiana; 3 grandchildren, Tristan and Taylor Maiers, Brittany Gow. She also leaves a best friend Sonia Canfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Bessie (nee Poole) McClave, her brother, Charles McClave and her baby son, Larry.
Friends may call from 5 ' 8 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday with Rev. Nancy Manner of the United Methodist Church of Avon Lake officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Street Cemetery, New London.
