"Sal" Midolo
December 15, 1930 – January 23, 2021
Salvatore L. "Sal" Midolo, 90, of New London, Ohio passed away peacefully on January 23, 2021 surrounded by family members at his home. He was born on December 15, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio to the now deceased Sebastiano and Maria (Bruno) Midolo. Sal graduated from Collinwood High School in 1949. He spent much of his life in service to others, first, to his country, as part of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and later, upon his return, for 47 years in law enforcement.
Sal was with the Cleveland Police Department for 29 years and New London Police Department for 14 years, where he had been the Chief of Police, as well as the Huron County Sherriff's Office for 4 years, after retiring as Chief. Additionally, he was a New London councilman for 4 terms, an EMT for Firelands Ambulance Service, had coached for New London Little League for 15 years, was past President of the New London Rotary, recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, an active member of the New London United Methodist Church, member of the New London American Legion Broome-Wood Post 292 and member of the Fraternal Order of Police Huron County Lodge 185.
He enjoyed winters in Lakeland, Florida and was an avid sports fan. Sal was very involved in the Emmaus community.
Survivors include his loving wife Connie (Perkins) Midolo; his children, John (Cathy) Midolo of Rochester, NY, Patricia (Ray) Bigelow of Milwaukee, WI, Kathy (Larry) Fuller of New London, OH, Sally (Dave) Childers of Mayfield Heights, OH, Jim (Jackie) Midolo of New London, OH, Sharon (Garth) McGrail of New London, OH, Norma (Steve) Johnson of Ocala, FL, Dorothy (Mark) Eddy of Castalia, OH, Bill Perkins of Cincinnati, OH, Mike (Gina) Perkins of Norwalk, OH; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his late wife Leanna Midolo; sister, Vincenza Ferraro; brothers, Charles, Anthony and Joseph and his children, Marirose and Michael Midolo.
The family will be publicly receiving friends at the New London United Methodist Church, 58 E. Main St., New London, on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 10 am until 12 pm (noon), with a private family only memorial service to be held at noon. Those attending are asked to wear a mask and practice all social distancing guidelines. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations to your favorite charity.
