Sarah 'Sally Jo' Barber, age 81, of New London, died Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.
Sally was born November 15, 1928 in Sandusky, daughter of the late, Walter & Olive (Sweet) Meloy. She graduated in 1946 from Brighton High School and went on to graduate from Oberlin Business School. Sally served as the Rochester Village Clerk for over 20 years. She was a member of the Rochester United Methodist Church.
Sally was active with 4-H and the open class pony shows for several fairs; and with the Lorain County Fair for over 50 years. She was an avid fan of the Browns, Indians, Cavaliers and the Buckeyes.
Sally is survived by children, Julie (Darrel) Moffit of Greenwich, Walter (Kimberly) Barber of Nova, John (Debbi Struble) Barber of Rochester and Lawrence 'Pete' Barber of Wellington; 5 grandchildren, James (Emilie Broske) Barber of North Ridgeville, Matthew (Megan) Barber of Springfield, Keenen (Ashley) Moffit of New London, Christy Barber of Nova, Noah Barber of Nova; 1great grandson, Connor Moffit of New London; and a sister, Margaret 'Peg' Oliver of MO. She was preceded by husband, Melvin in 1974 and an infant son, Danny Barber.
Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 pm Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London, where funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. Pastor Thomas Keller will officiate and burial will follow in Rochester Cemetery.
