Pastor Sherman Barlow, 88, of Norwalk, OH, died on January 22, 2024. He was born in Virginia in 1935 to David and Sarah [Blackburn] Barlow. He married Ruth [Jennings] in 1954, nearly 70 years ago.
Sherman was born again in 1958, under the ministry of the great tent revivalist Oliver B. Greene. He was a pastor in PA and NC for over 50 years, having earned a Master's Degree in Bible. Known for his grace and humility, he was a Spirit-filled family man, a dynamic preacher, and a natural leader. He led several churches and was the founder of one of those. He led missions trips to Israel, Egypt and Trinidad. He led his family. And he led people to Jesus!
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Blaine, and his half-brothers Alden, Billy and Wayne. He is survived by his wife, his brother James, and his daughters, Brenda [Stanley] and her husband Joe, and Kimberly [Shirley] and her husband Jerry, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday, January 28 at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church of New London, OH, to be officiated by his pastor and son-in-law, Jerry Shirley. Friends and family are also invited to visit from 5 until the time of the 6 p.m. service.
Burial will be the next day, Monday, at 11 a.m. at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk.
