Shirley N. Doughty, 90, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, August 16, 2020. She was born to the late Lester M. and Clarissa L. (Green) Bauer on February 16, 1930 in Wakeman, Ohio and resided in Wakeman, Hawaii, Florida, and in Norwalk for the past 49 years. Shirley graduated from Wakeman High School in 1948; she worked as a bank teller at the Wakeman Bank for 5 years. She also worked for a trucking company in Cleveland, Ohio, as a cashier / accounting bookkeeper for 12 years. Shirley did the scheduling for the Bloodmobile and delivered for Meals on Wheels for 40 years. She was a member of the Norwalk First United Methodist Church in Norwalk, Ohio; she was a member of the Naomi Ruth Circle, and Car Coddlers for close to 30 years; and she was a member of the Norwalk bowling league, (which is where she met her late husband). Shirley enjoyed cooking, sewing, flower gardens, going on picnics, attending car shows, square dancing, bowling, watching the birds out of her window, traveling with her husband to the Canadian Rockies, Hawaii, and Branson, MO. She enjoyed most of all spending her time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she adored.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Leslie L. Neuberger (Gary A. Rash) of Norwalk, Ohio, by her 4 grandchildren, Justin (Kelly) Neuberger, Ryan (Megan) Neuberger, Alex Neuberger, and Kameron "Kami" Neuberger, by her 4 great-grandchildren, Hunter Conley, Layne Neuberger, Payton Neuberger, and Kailyn Neuberger, and one great-granddaughter expected in October, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Allen Hawley in 1970, and by her second husband Eugene P. Doughty in 2019.
Friends may call on Monday, August 24, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Norwalk First United Methodist Church, 60 W. Main St. Norwalk, Ohio 44857. A service will be held at the Norwalk First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Donna Van Trees and Chaplain Mel Saylor of Stein Hospice will officiate. Visitors are required to wear masks and practice all social distancing and mass gathering guidelines for the visitation and service. Interment will be at St. Paul Cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio.
