Stanley E. Gilbert, Sr., 78, of New London, passed away on September 3, 2015 at FTMC. He was born July 2, 1937, in Norwalk and resided in the area most of his life. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. Stanley was a welder at the Lorain Shipyards, a trade that he learned while in the service. Stanley loved the outdoors and nature, especially hunting. He is survived by his children, Stacey (Jamie) Gilbert of Wakeman, Kim Shareef of Elyria and Stanley Gilbert, Jr. of Huron; grandchildren, Courtney, AJ, Tylor and Anthony; great grandchildren, Savannah, Brooklyn and Lillian and siblings, Joyce (Elmer) Hall of Greenwich, Audrey (James) Harvey of Norwalk, Helen Ohlemacher of Norwalk, Sharon Barr of TN, Lonnie (Cathy) Gilbert of Greenwich and Gary Gilbert of Norwalk. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Dolly Gilbert and sister-in-law, Deb Gilbert. A burial with military honors to follow at a later date.
