IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Terry L.
Grills
December 24, 1947 – December 10, 2024
With great sorrow we inform you that Terry Laverne Grills, age 76, passed away on December 10, 2024, at Allen Community Hospital.
Terry was born in Oberlin, Ohio on December 24, 1947. His family moved to Nebraska for a brief period then returned to Oberlin where he graduated from Oberlin High School with honors. His education was continued with a master's degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Terry was a Title One Reading Specialist most of his 30 years as a teacher. He taught in San Francisco, Phoenix, Centerville and finished his career in North Ridgeville, Ohio where he had the pleasure of teaching with his brother, Dick, at Wilcox Elementary.
As for out of school, he loved fishing with his family, especially his dad and brother. They would fish from a houseboat in Dale Hollow, Tennessee. They also often took charter trips for salmon in New York and Michigan, then traveled to McGregor Bay in Canada for pike. One of their favorite places to fish was Lake Erie, where they fished for walleye and perch from their boat the Jolly Rogers. The three of them loved being together and truly enjoyed God's lovely creation in the great outdoors.
Another passion Terry enjoyed was golf. He was in several leagues and at one time played to an 8 or 9 handicap.
Most of all he enjoyed being with his family, especially his wonderful wife, Sue, whom he loved with all his heart for the last 48 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Doris (nee Foultner) Grills and his younger brother James Randall. He is survived by his wife, Sue Torrens Grills; children, Taj and Marci Grills; grandchildren, Cameron and Savannah Conn, Saydee and Riah Grills; his brother, Richard Randall II "Dick" and Allyson (Knapp) Grills.
We would like everyone who knew Terry to join us at the Wellington Eagles F.O.E. 2051 on Sunday, January 19 from 1-4 p.m. for food, drinks, stories and to celebrate his life.
A note from Terry: "If you drink please have a cold one for me." He always enjoyed a cold beer.
Always enjoy your life and never give up.
