Thomas A. Mavis, 59, of New London, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at his home after a sudden illness. He was born on September 19, 1953, in Mansfield. Thomas graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1971 and Bowling Green University in 1975. He taught at Mapleton High School for many years. Survived by his mother, Mary E. Mavis of Fredericktown; brother, Richard J. "Rick" Mavis of Mt. Vernon; sister, Julie Buzzo of Battle Creek, Michigan and several nieces and nephews. Thomas was preceded in death by his father, Homer S. Mavis, Jr. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
