Obituary

Tilton E. 'Tilt' Bowen, age 79, of Baker, West Virginia died Thursday, February 5, 2009 at his home. He was born December 8, 1929 in Delaware, Ohio. He had lived in Greenwich and Shelby, Ohio. He was a 1948 graduate of Greenwich High School. He had lived in West Virginia since 1976. Tilt had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked for Curtis Breeding Service for 17 years, at H & B Forge Co., and had been a casual labor Forest Firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service. He had operated a sawmill, sold turquoise and operated Bowen Blades. He was a former member of the Greenwich American Legion, a life member of the N.R.A. Tilt was also a devoted grandfather. He is survived by his sons, James D. (Terra) Bowen of Baker, W.Va., Shawn T. (Angela) Bowen of Moorefield, W.Va.; 6 grandchildren; his siblings, Michael (Danna) Murray of Norwalk, Mary Beth Hartley of Greenwich, Carol (Jim) Kocher of Norwalk, stepsister, Marlene Forbes of Courtland, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert F. Bowen, his mother, Verona (Tilton) Murray, an infant daughter, his nephew, Jeff Murray and his brother in law, Earl Hartley. Friends may call from 6 ' 8 p.m. Monday, February 9, at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Tom Matus officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Edwards Grove Cemetery, Greenwich. A memorial service will be held in West Virginia at a later date.
