Verna E. Mull, 98, of Pittsfield, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Laurels Of New London. She was born on January 17, 1915 in Pittsfield to the late Frank and Allie (nee Wilton) Betts. Mrs. Mull was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield and a 1933 graduate of Wellington High School. Verna was an active member of her community; she was a member of the Pittsfield Community Church and the Pittsfield Women's Fellowship. Verna enjoyed volunteering her time at Allen Memorial Hospital in Oberlin. She enjoyed helping cook meals for the Senior Citizens and various church gatherings. She was a member of the Farm Bureau, and the Central Ohio Draft Horse Association. Verna lived on the family farm and draft horses were a large part of her life. She won the stabled draft horse pull at the Richland Co. Fair for 14 years in a row. The thing that Verna cherished most was her family and the time that she spent with them. Verna is survived by her children, Edith (Orville) Nance of Wellington Ellen (Edwin) Brasee of Wellington, Donna (Lester) Bates of Milan, David (Debbie) Mull of Wellington, Lloyd (Marjorie) Mull of Wellington and Lorna (Tim) Hendricks of Wellington; 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her infant daughter Elsie Jeanne, and siblings Hazel Gleisner, Blanche Becker, Clyde, Earl and Sam Betts. Friends and family will be received on Sunday, December 1, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main, Wellington. Services will be held on Monday at the Pittsfield Community Church, 17026 State Rt 58, Wellington, with an hour of visiting beginning at 10 a.m. and services beginning at 11 a.m., burial will follow at Pittsfield East Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the Pittsfield Community Church, the Pittsfield Historical Society or to the Laurels Of New London.
