Veronica Delores Mencl, age 84, of New London, died Sunday, August 16, 2009 at The Rehabilitation & Nursing Center at Firelands, New London. Born July 30, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late John and Mary (Pastiran) Comray, Veronica grew up in Brecksville and was a graduate of Brecksville High School. On June 4, 1946 Veronica married Edward Mencl at the Holy Family Church in Cleveland and they moved to Rochester in 1960. She worked at the Huron County Bank, Nickels Bakery, Kent Sporting Goods and the New London Hospital. Veronica was a member of Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church, New London. Since moving to the area in 1960 veronica was a member of the New London Grange while her husband was living. A loving mother and grandmother, she loved participating in all of her grandchildren's lives and activities, which helped her keep a youthful attitude about life. She was thrilled with the birth of her first great grandson this year. She was truly family oriented; her family always came first. Survivors include her children, Ken (Phyllis) Mencl of Nova, Jim (Pam) Mencl of Rochester and Ray (Sharon) Mencl of New London; 7 grandchildren, and 2 step grandsons; 1 great grandson; sisters, Dorothy Comray of Palm Desert, California, Ruth Wehner of Peachtree City, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Mencl, on November 29, 1973. Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 19 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 20 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church 18 Park Ave., New London, with Rev. Doug Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, New London. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, or to the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Firelands, 204 West Main St., New London.
