Vicky L. Fridenstine passed away April 25, 2026, after a lengthy illness. Vicky was born September 21, 1955, in Oberlin, Ohio, the daughter of the late Linda and Paul Fridenstine.
Miss Fridenstine, as she was known throughout her career to hundreds of kindergarten students, received her teaching degree from Kent State University. After student teaching in England, she spent most of her thirty years of teaching at Eastwood School in Oberlin. Vicky loved teaching and especially loved making deep, long-lasting connections with her students and their families. Students from Oberlin and around the country continued to visit and check-in with Miss Fridenstine throughout her life, even long after her retirement.
Always an adventurous spirit, Vicky loved to travel- Italy and any beach being her favorite destinations. After retirement she taught in Mexico and the British Virgin Islands. Vicky had a wide range of talents that she incorporated into teaching and life. From quilting to knitting to felting to costume making, she loved all forms of textiles. And she was dangerous with a glue gun! Her classroom, home, and yard were filled with original creations and lovely memorabilia from throughout her life.
In addition to the love she shared with her students and many friends, Vicky was devoted to her pets. Her beloved Westies were front and center for many years. More recently she rescued a wild little terrier named Stella and her two cats, Frankie and Henry. Each of them provided Vicky with kisses and companionship throughout her illness.
The outpouring of love and support for Vicky throughout her illness from family, chosen family, friends, and former students is a testament to her life well lived. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
