Obituary

Virginia A. Moffit, age 96, of Norwalk, died on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at Norwalk Memorial Home in Norwalk surrounded by her loving family. Born July 11, 1928 in Ashland, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Gray) Gardner. Virginia graduated from Savannah High School in 1946 and married Robert D. Moffit who preceded her in death in 2005.

A homemaker for many years while raising her children, Virginia worked for Thomas Creative Apparel for 17 years after they were grown. She had also worked as a beautician and was a member of the Fitchville Grange. Virginia truly enjoyed sewing as well as gardening, camping, cooking and baking. She loved playing Bocce Ball too, but the true highlight of her life was her family. She cherished the time that she spent with her children and grandchildren, hosting family gatherings and simply surrounding herself with those she loved most. A devout Christian, she was a member of Fitchville Community Church, formerly Fitchville United Methodist Church, and taught Sunday School there.

Left to cherish Virginia's memory are her beloved sons, David (Carol) Moffit, Doug Moffit, and Darrel (Julie) Moffit; daughter-in-law, Brenda Moffit; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons; Dennis and Donald Moffit ; an infant daughter, Diana L. Moffit; three brothers, Lawrence Gardner, Kenneth Gardner, and R. Merle Gardner; and three sisters, Marguerite Matthews, Kathleen Hughes, and Mary Nalley.

Family and friends are invited to visitation on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London, OH 44851. Pastor Mark Killgrove will be officiating services; interment will follow at North Fairfield Cemetery.
