Obituary

W. Murray Withrow, 87, of Wellington died peacefully with family by his side at Keystone Pointe Health and Rehabilitation in LaGrange, Ohio on November 29, 2010. Born in Rochester, PA on August 5, 1923, Murray was a son of the late William Joseph and Jessie (nee Walker) Withrow. Murray was raised in Upper Sandusky, OH and graduated with the Upper Sandusky High School Class of 1941. During school he was active in Scholastic Affairs, was a member and secretary of the High School Band, and performed in the Swing Band, Orchestra and Glee Club. Murray went on to further his education at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio as a History Major. During his years at "the Berg" he was a member of the History Club, President of the Student Prince Band, a proud member and President of the Nu Sigma Alpha Mens Fraternity (the 'Heids') and a member of the Men's Basketball team. Murray was also a reporter for the Heidelberg school newspaper, "The Kilikilik', where he wrote two popular articles 'The Foul Shot' and 'News, Views, Reviews and Previews'. After graduating from Heidelberg in 1945, he attended The Ohio State University Law School and remained a dedicated Buckeye fan. Murray began his career at Commercial Credit Corporation as a Collections Manager and then to Nationwide Insurance Company in Columbus in 1961. He retired in 1981 as Branch Manager of the Cleveland Office of Nationwide Consumer Services. He was a devoted Christian and lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church. A true lover of life, Murray enjoyed music, singing and dancing. He was a kind, caring and compassionate man who was loved and admired by all. He was an avid fan of all Cleveland sports but, most of all, enjoyed time spent with family. Many fond family memories remain of playing euchre, fishing trips, attendiing sporting events and celebrating life. Survivors include his two sons, Murray A. 'Mickey' Withrow of Wellington and Scott A. Withrow of Midland, MI; grandchildren, Jamie, Jessa, Emily, Hunter, Heidi, Jason, Jason, Heather, Ryan, Murray, Amy and Evan; 8 great grandchildren and a sister, Ruth Bacon of Upper Sandusky. He was preceded in death by his first wife, F. Pauline Withrow and then Marilyn Withrow; daughter, Terri Lou Wolfe; son, Frank Elliot Withrow; stepdaughter, Gay Ellen Zibikowski and sisters, Muriel Roth and Jessie Snyder. Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. A service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Wellington, 127 Park Place, Wellington with Rev. Lea Mahan officiating.
