Wayne Watson, Sr., 83, of Greenwich, OH died at his home on Monday, July 20, 2026. He was born on May 28, 1943, in Sandusky, OH, the son of the late Oliver and Ruth (Morgan) Watson.
Wayne grew up and spent his early years in the Sandusky area until he married the love of his life, Kathryn B (Dantes) Watson on February 9, 1967. Together they made their home outside of Greenwich and spent 53 years together until her passing in 2020.
Wayne was a hardworking man, always determined to do things himself whether it was cutting firewood, mowing his grass, making roof repairs or anything else he got himself into. His family might have said he was a little (or a lot) on the stubborn side, but Wayne liked to refer to it as being independent. Wayne was an avid hunter and enjoyed taking trips to Canada to hunt. He was a member of the Pope and Young Big Game Club.
A huge car fanatic, Wayne spent his years working as a mechanic for Castalia Auto Body, Bill Claus Olds Cadillac in Sandusky, Bob Meyer Chevrolet of Norwalk, Fitzgerald Auto Body and Bacon Chevy of Greenwich. Wayne and his daughter Shari helped organize the Huron Valley Car Coddlers Car Show Honoring Corpsman Maxton W. Soviak; attending car shows was a favorite pastime of Wayne’s.
Wayne is survived by his son, Wayne (Jill) Watson Jr., and daughter, Shari O’Donnell; grandchildren, Steven (Matt), Kane, Emily, Andrew, Abigail, and Daniel. In addition to his parents and wife, Kathryn, Wayne was preceded in death by his brothers, William and Robert Watson and his sister, Mabel Clements.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St, Greenwich, OH 44837; where his Funeral Service will begin at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Hester Cemetery on Ridge Road, Norwalk. Memorial contributions in Wayne’s honor may be directed to the Corpsman Maxton W Soviak Memorial Foundation in c/o Civista Bank, 24 E. Main St., Berlin Heights, OH 44814. Online condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.eastmanfuneralhome.com.
