Willard C. 'Stub' Barnes, age 93, of New London, was released from his physical restraints and entered into heavenly freedom early Saturday morning, June 9, 2012. at Norwalk Memorial Home. He was born December 11, 1918 at White Fox, Clarksfield Twp., Ohio to the late Clair and Sade (nee McClellan) Barnes. He was a 1938 graduate of Brighton High School, where he played on the basketball team and played trumpet. Willard was the 5th generation in the Barnes family to farm in Huron County. He had farmed his entire life. He also had worked as a bus driver for the New London Schools, had worked at the Kipton John Deere and Rapkins Garage as a tractor mechanic. Willard was a former New London Township Trustee, past President of Ruritan, a 25 year member of the Grange and a member of the Farmers Union and NFO.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Beverly (nee Dailey); 3 sons, Richard, Roger and Rodney all of New London; a daughter and son in law, Rita and Robert VonKamp of Collins; 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 1 great grandchild expected in August. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wendell.
Friends may call and condolences offered and memories shared from 5 ' 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London. His remains will be cremated with a private burial at a later date.
