Obituary

William V. 'Bud' Cleavenger, age 78, of New London, died early Sunday morning, September 23, 2007 at Fisher Titus Medical Center after a 2 month illness. He was born April 29, 1929 in Barbour County, West Virginia, son of the late Mack B. and Iva Gertrude (Skidmore) Cleavenger. He had lived in Berlin Heights for 26 years and in New London for the past 26 years. Mr. Cleavenger served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he had been a medic and received the Purple Heart for injuries he had received during the war. He had worked at Firelands Fruit Farm in Berlin Heights for 26 years, at Vandresser Corp. in Norwalk for 3 years and for Janesville Products in Norwalk for 5 years until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Cleavenger enjoyed coon hunting, Walker Coon Hounds and country music. He is survived by his wife, Ellen E. (Pine) Cleavenger, whom he married October 1, 1982; 2 sons, William Richard (Cecelia) Cleavenger of New London, Franklin (Sumalee) Cleavenger of Norwalk; 2 daughters, Pamela (Joseph) Pirl of Clairington, Ohio and Cathy Osborne of Powhatan, Ohio; 9 stepchildren, Cecelia (William) Cleavenger, Ellen Bowling, Margaret (Martin) Wiley, Melanie (Charles) Roberts, Carl Ours, Jr., Theresa Patchin, Jeffrey (Sarah) Ours all of New London, Karen (Tim) Heitsche of Collins and Larry (Lisa) Ours of Norwalk; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Ring of Norwalk and Beverly Strong of Michigan; a brother, Homer Cleavenger of Ill.; many nieces and nephews; his dog, Satin. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Mae (Osborn) Cleavenger, his son, William Vincent Cleavenger, Jr., 3 brothers, Rush, Charles, Sr. and Benny Cleavenger. Friends may call from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial with military rites will follow at Grove Street Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be given to the family in care of the funeral home.
