William A. Roberts, 99, of Northfield, died Tuesday, April 1, 2025 with his family by his side.  Born on September 27, 1925, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Dale and Alberta (Schoonover) Roberts.   He served in the U.S. Navy for over 30 years as a submariner during World War II, Korea, and the Vietnam War. Later in his career, he was the last chief of the USS Cod, in Cleveland.

After his military service, he worked for Ferro Chemical in Bedford as an electrician.  He was an active member of the VFW, a volunteer with Boy Scouts of America, and an instructor of hunter safety classes through the Department of Wildlife.  He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting and fishing and caring for his dogs and cats.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene (Bronstrup) Roberts; his children William (Joan) Roberts, II, Dale (Shirley) Roberts, Bernice Roberts, George (Ronda) Roberts, and May Rose Roberts; four grandchildren: Tim, Grace, Keith, and Stephanie; and five great grandchildren: Arlyn, Mara, Jayden, Dylan, and Brinley; sisters: Nadine, Mary and Donna; and numerous nieces and nephews.  William was preceded in death by his siblings Gale, Jean, Darrel, and Bernie.

Friends and family will be received on Sunday, April 6, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington. A brief service will be held at 4 pm by the Fleet Reserves. Funeral services will be held on Monday, at the funeral home, beginning at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with full military honors.
