Alex Horvath, 89, died Friday, April 3, 2015 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain. He was born February 27, 1926 in Sandusky and lived in the Wellington area most of his life.
He was a person who gave great hugs, powerful handshakes and loved helping people. Retired from Manfredi Motor Transit he had put well over 5,000,000 miles on the road and became the Ohio Trucking Association's 1988 Driver of the Year. He was also honored by the Ohio Highway Patrol.
Alex had enjoyed bowling, his garage and yard. He had loved working at the Lorain County Fair as Parking Director and taking tickets. He had been a member of the Lorain County Sheriff's Office since 1958. He spent 10 years after retirement as a volunteer repairman and bus driver for the Senior Mini Bus.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce (nee Peabody) and daughters, Pamela (John) Minnich and Heather (Russ) Simmons; grandchildren, Angelique (Tim) Gallion, Monique (Mike) Carroll, Derek (Tabatha) Simmons and precious great granddaughters, Mallory, Alexa, Shelby, and Aubrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Rose Horvath, brother Frank; sister Mary (Dick) Carmen, son-in-law John Minnich and 5 years missed grandson Drake Simmons.
Visitation will be Monday, April 6 from 5-7 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington, where Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington.
