Anita M. Ashton, 83, of Nankin, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, June 5, 2021. Born on February 17, 1938 in Lodi, she was the daughter of the late Osborne and Doris (nee Wandel) Black. Anita was a graduate of Nova High School and a lifelong resident of the Nova area.
Anita drove bus for the Mapleton school district, she later worked for Bill Harris Auto and Abers Garage and then retired from Atlas Supply. She enjoyed tending to her garden and feeding the birds. Anita was talented with needle work; she liked working on puzzles and reading. Anita’s family and friends will remember the numerous card games they were able to enjoy playing with her.
Survivors include her children, Tammy (Tony) Hall, of Caledonia, and Richard (Andrea) Ashton, of Columbus; grandchildren Tyler (Jessica) Hall, and Tayler (Joseph) Simpson; great-granddaughter Abigail; son-in-law, Mark Anderson; and her sister, Jane (Dean) White. Anita was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years Paul; daughter Sharon Anderson; and her brother Ray Black.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, June 9, from 5-7 p.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St, New London, where services will be held on Thursday, beginning at 11 a.m. burial will follow at Nova Cemetery.
