Ayris I. Newton, 81, residing in Norwalk, passed away Tuesday morning, July 26, 2022, at Norwalk Memorial Home.
Ayris was born on May 18, 1941, in Russells Point, OH to the late Hinton Tyson and Dorothea (Shough) Tyson.
Ayris was a 1959 graduate of Norwalk High School and was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church in Norwalk. She was a very dedicated and involved member of the church where she participated in the choir, taught Sunday school, and vacation Bible school. Ayris was employed in administrative roles at Norwalk City Schools for over 30 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed ceramics, cross-stitching, and playing games. Ayris was also very fond of her dogs. Her greatest joy of all was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Ayris is survived by her loving husband, Dallas Newton, whom she married on June 25, 1977; daughters, Wende (Joel) Mersereau of Norwalk, Karen Newton of Norwalk, and Kelly (Kevin) Collins of Perrysburg; and 4 grandchildren, Philip, Jonah, Mason, and Madison.
In addition to her parents, Ayris was preceded in death by her brothers, Lee Tyson and Cleet Tyson.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk. Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
