Barbara J. (Schlegelmilch) Chase

Barbara J. Chase, 83, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, January 16, 2023, at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.  

Barbara was born on October 12, 1939, in Norwalk to the late Walter and Lucy (Stoneham) Schlegelmilch. She was a graduate of the 1957 class of Norwalk High School. Barbara was a dedicated employee of Fisher-Titus Medical Center, serving as a nurse’s aide and surgical transport team member for more than 40 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. In her spare time, Barbara enjoyed ceramics, canning, gardening, fishing, and boating.  

Barbara is survived by her children, Michelle (Richard) Schaffer of Norwalk and Randy (Tracy) Chase of Collins; son-in-law, Tom Hipp; grandchildren, Ashley Schaffer, Bryson (Kristin) Schaffer, Anthony Hipp, and Tess (Seth) Todd; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Alicia) Schlegelmilch and Walter (Pat) Schlegelmilch and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives.  

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ronald B. Chase and daughter, Beverly Hipp.  

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main Street, Norwalk, OH 44857. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at 11 am at St. Alphonsus Church, 1322 Settlement Road, Norwalk, OH 44857.
