Barbara Ellen (Smith) Hale

Barbara Ellen Hale, 81, of Ripley, OH, previously of Greenwich, died Monday, May 4, 2020, at Ohio Valley Manor Nursing Home, under the care of The Hospice of Cincinnati. Born on December 6, 1938 in Vidor TX, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Bernice (nee McNeely) Smith. 

Barbara was a dedicated wife and mother. She served as a girl scout leader for 15 years, was a leader and sunday school teacher at Greenwich Baptist Church and the Willard Assembly of God. Barbara loved to collect dolls and was an avid gardener with her flowers and vegetables. 

Survivors include her children Melissa (Frank) Duarte, of Xenia, OH, and Kimberly (Andy) Simms, of Felicity, OH; son-in-law, Paul Smith of Augusta, KS; grandchildren, Joshua and Toby Smith, and Letitia Denny; siblings Dennis Knapp, and Linda Pickering, both of TX. Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband David Hale; loving daughter Cheryl Smith; siblings Walter Knapp, Charles Knapp, John Smith, and Wayne Smith; and in addition to her parents she was preceded by her step father Myron Knapp. 

A private family service will be held on Friday, but friends and family are encouraged to join the service on a webcast at www.eastmanfuneralhome.com beginning on Friday at 1 p.m. or anytime after. Burial will take place at Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery. Donations in Barbara’s memory may be given to the Hospice of Cincinnati at P.O. Box 633597 Cincinnati, OH 45263-3597.
