Bugs "Jerry" Hess

Bugs “Jerry” Hess, 63, residing in Norwalk, passed away peacefully Monday morning, September 13, 2021 at his home.  

Bugs was born in New London, OH on February 16, 1958 to the late Jim and June (Knapp) Hess.  

Bugs was a 1976 graduate of South Central High School. He was a shipping supervisor for 17 years at American Excelsior and a truck driver for various companies. In his spare time, Bugs enjoyed going to auctions, attending tractor pulls and using Facebook to communicate with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor who could easily make people laugh. Bugs also had a helper’s heart and was always willing to lend a hand to family, friends, and strangers alike. He was an excellent family man who thrived in his role as a father, grandfather, brother and son. Bugs received his greatest joy from his family, especially his children and grandchildren.  

Bugs is survived by his significant other of 20 years, Martha Justi of Norwalk; children, Jeff (Karla) Schneider of Bellevue, Jeremy (Danielle) Hess of North Fairfield, Jason (Amber) Hess of North Fairfield, Jarod (Tammy) Hess of Medina, Crystal (Steve) Smith of Greenwich and Jim (Hannah) Justi of Wakeman; 14 grandchildren; siblings, Sharon (Gary) Eastman of Norwalk, Carol (Richard) Schafer of Norwalk, John Hess of North Fairfield, Cindy (Ron) Carey of Toledo, Lynda (Kim) Hess of Norwalk, Jeff (Peggy) Hess of New London and many other nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.  

In addition to his parents, Bugs was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Hess; sister, Pat Montgomery and brother-in-law, Leo Montgomery.  

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 2 pm to 8 pm at Foundation Church, 535 US 20 E Norwalk, OH 44857. Funeral services will be held in the church on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 10 am. Pastor Jeff Watson will be presiding. Burial will follow at Grove Street Cemetery in New London. Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home will be assisting the family with arrangements.
