Carol A (Downing) Scheetz

Carol A. Scheetz, 80, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio.  She was born to the late Leon and Naomi R. (Schilling) Downing on November 15, 1938 in Norwalk, Ohio and was a lifelong area resident. 

Carol graduated from Norwalk High School in 1956 and held jobs as a waitress at the Korner Kupboard Restaurant in Milan, Ohio and the Brown Derby Restaurant in Sandusky, Ohio, and she retired as the manager of the Friendship gas station in Wakeman, Ohio.

Carol enjoyed bowling on singles and doubles bowling leagues with her husband, as well as riding on her husband’s Harley Davidson motorcycle.  She was the first female in Erie County to earn a Chauffeur’s License and she received a Ham Radio Operators License.  Carol was an avid Cleveland Cavaliers and Indians fan, and she really enjoyed “family night” with her family. 

Carol is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, John P. Scheetz, at Ohio Veteran’s Home, Sandusky, Ohio; by her children, Cindy R. (Tom) Trunk of Vermilion, Ohio, Pamela M. (Pete) Fisher of Port Charlotte, Florida and David J. Scheetz of Huron, Ohio.  Carol is also survived by her grandchildren, Stacey (Bill) Hildenbrand, Troy Costigan, Brooke (Will) Gruhlke, Travis Costigan, Stephanie Trevino, Brandon Puder, and Ashley (Steve) Bowers; by 14 great grandchildren; by her sister, Charmalee Fuller of Norwalk, Ohio, by her guardian angel and friend Carly Adams and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Beverly (Harry) McKain, and by her brother-in-law Donald Fuller. 

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
