Charles S. Coy Sr., 87, of Norwalk passed away on Friday, May 29, 2020 in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born to the late Christian H. and Gertrude L. Coy on September 20, 1932 in Norwalk, Ohio, and was a lifelong area resident. Charles attended Norwalk schools and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded 2 Purple Heart Medals. He spent 16 years employed with Paul E. Bleile Company as a heavy equipment operator and retired after many years with Sheller Globe Corporation.
Charles attended Mt. Harvest Church of God and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 2743, American Legion, Ken Burr Bell Post 41, F.O.E. Aerie 711, and he was a member of the former Moose Lodge, all in Norwalk, Ohio. He was also a member of the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association for over 44 years, as well as the Norwalk Farm Tractor Club and LaGrange Engine Club.
Charlie was a loving, caring, compassionate, and hardworking man and would do anything for someone in need. He was a wonderful and doting husband and father as well as a great provider. Charlie enjoyed camping with his family, tinkering in the garage, collecting and working on old engines of any kind, he loved animals and was passionate about the game of bingo (and if they hosted it 7 days a week, he would be there); but his greatest passion of all, was for his family.
He is survived by his children, Carrie F. Butler of Norwalk, Ohio, Wanda M. Coy of Kenton, Ohio, Charles S. (Darlene) Coy, Jr. of Sandusky, Ohio and Dawn I. (Larry) Case, Jr. of Norwalk, Ohio, by his grandchildren, Melissa, Michelle, Shannon, Shane, Jeremy, Larry, Wade and Ivy, by six great-grandchildren, by two great-great-grandchildren, by several nieces and nephews, and by his beloved black lab; Duke.
Charlie is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Betty J. (Scriver) Coy in 2015, by his son, Russel H. Coy, by his son-in-law, Gary Butler, and by his siblings, Jean Griffin, Beverly Peckham, Betty Mantz, Christian “June” Coy, Jr., Robert Coy, and Evelyn Hainline.
Friends may call on Thursday, June 4, from 11: 00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at an outdoor visitation in the gazebo located in the back of Meadow Green Memorial Park Cemetery, 2602 Bogart Rd. Huron, Ohio 44089. Directions to the gazebo will be clearly marked at arrival. Visitors are encouraged to wear a mask and practice all social distancing and mass gathering guidelines. A brief outdoor service will follow the visitation with Pastor Joe Woodyard officiating.
