Christena M (Dalton) Johannsen

Christena M. Dalton Johannsen, 97, passed away on 1-21-2021  at her daughters in Medina, Ohio.  She was born on 11-11-1923 in Wakeman, Ohio to Ina May (Hill) Dalton and Henry S. Dalton.  Christena’s mother died when she was 2 months old.  Her father Henry and step mother, Bertha raised Christena.  Bertha was the only mother she knew.  Christena resided all of her life in Wakeman and was a 1941 graduate of Wakeman High School. 

Christena married Clarence Johannsen on April 25, 1943.  Together they raised three daughters, Joan, Ruth Ann and Kay.  In addition to their daughters, she is survived by her nephew Jeff Emerick.  She attended Henrietta United Methodist Church and was very active with church suppers, pie bake sales, pumpkin rolls and did the church flowers till she was 80 years old.  Christena was a 4-H advisor in Birmingham for many years and sponsored square dances to raise money.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, son in laws, Harold Hoffman, David Klinger and her brothers and sisters, Byron and Edna Dalton, Elmer Dalton, Harry and Margaret Dalton, George and Mildred Dalton, William and and Ada Louise Dalton, Nick and Marie Wagner, Hazel and Cliff Gibbs, Homer and Edith Dalton and many nieces and nephews.  

Private services will take place at the Wakeman Cemetery.  Memorials may be given to Henrietta Methodist Church, 52148 Telagraph Road, Amherst, OH 44001, The Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave.,  Cleveland, OH 44110 or Florence Township Fire Department, 11017 Chapel St., Wakeman, OH 44889.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Eastman Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be shared at www.eastmanfuneralhome.com .
