Dawn Frances Mock, 79, of Ashland, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loved ones after recently being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was born on May 29, 1942 in Taylor, PA and was the daughter of the late Eva (nee Zielinski) and Wesley Mock. Dawn grew up in Pennsylvania, moving to Ohio as a young adult.
Dawn was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, celebrated her Polish ancestry by making perogies and borscht for her family’s Easter tradition, was an excellent cook and baker, loved her vegetable and flower gardens, and her favorite place to travel was to the Finger Lakes in NY with her sisters. She was a homemaker, hair dresser, and later retired as a teacher’s assistant from the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Dawn was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wellington where she was involved in the Mighty Girls of God, Annual Rummage Sale and various bible studies and programs.
She leaves behind her children, Frederick Schmidt, Jr. of Medina, Wendy Schmidt of Oberlin, Jeffrey (Cathy) Schmidt of Trinway and Derek (Stephanie) Schmidt of New London; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and sister, Cynthia Zondlo. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Delores King and Carole Concert and former spouse and father of her children, Frederick Schmidt.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, September 10. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 am with a memorial service to immediately follow held at the First United Methodist Church, 127 Park Place, Wellington, OH 44090 with Pastor Paul Wilson to officiate. A private burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
