Doris Meadows Obituary

Doris Southcomb Meadows, 87, of Ashland, died Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at The Good Shepherd in Ashland. She was born on October 31, 1926, in Baltimore, Maryland, daughter of the late Paul and Evelyn (Andrews) Southcomb . She married Alvin Meadows on June 13, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Meadows passed away in 1997. After marriage they moved to Rosedale, West Virginia to start a new life together in the logging business. Doris cooked meals for the logging camp workers for several years, before moving to Elyria, Ohio to raise her family.

Throughout her life, she was active in a variety of activities including filing parts for a motorcycle shop, Girl Scout leader, cooking sloppy joes for the motorcycle races, Sunday school teacher, skillful seamstress and wonderful homemaker and school bus driver. She could roller skate and jump "double-dutch" jump rope with the best of them!

She was a member of the Nova Community United Methodist Church and a member of the Nova Research Club. Doris was a past member of the Eastern Star.

Doris is survived by a son, Russ (Sharon) Meadows of Elyria; daughters, Jacklyn Meadows of Nova, Carol (Clinton Haught) Dickson of Ashland and Bobbie Higgins of Ashland; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; grandson, James Meadows and brothers, Gilbert, Kenneth and Marvin Southcomb.

Friends may call from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London. If desired, memorials can be made to the Nova Community United Methodist Church, 257 State Route 224, Nova, Ohio 44859.
