Dorothy M. Cottengaim Green, 97, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away the morning of Friday, July 24, 2020 in Willows of Willard Nursing Home, Willard, Ohio. She was born on June 28, 1923 to the late William and Ethel M. (Pruitt) Cottengaim in Fort Dodge, Iowa, she was raised in Flora, Illinois and in her later years lived in the local areas of Attica, Willard and Norwalk, Ohio. Dorothy attended the Norwalk First United Methodist Church, she was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Norwalk, Ohio, the Norwalk Eagles #711, the Red Hat Society, and Monday Bowling League with the senior citizens. Dorothy retired following 30 years of employment at Pioneer Rubber Company. She also held jobs at F.W. Woolworths, L & K Motel and A & P Grocery Store all in Norwalk, Ohio. She enjoyed calling bingo for the senior citizens and the Carriage House, at 50 years of age she learned how to crochet, at age 70, she learned how to swim, and in her 80’s, she took piano lessons. Dorothy was known to her friends and family as a “go getter”, she was a strong woman with a zest for life and an eagerness to learn. Those who knew her best will miss her spirit and her great smile. She is survived by her children, Richard A. (Janet) Green of Alamo, Texas, Ruth A. (Lanny) Vogel of Willard, Ohio, Rebecca S. (Greg) Hoyt of Wakeman, Ohio, and Rhesa M. (Robert) Toth of Canton, Ohio, by 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Dorothy is also survived by her sister, Wilma Alsup of Aberdeen, North Carolina, and by numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy S. Green in 1995, by her children, Robert W. Green and Roberta L. Welch, by her siblings; Leroy Cottengaim, Willis Cottengaim, Billy Cottengaim, Wanda Schnaultz, and Wandalene Cottengaim. A grave side service will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 in Maple Grove Cemetery, State Route 61 South, New Haven, Ohio 44850 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Dr. Brian Oglesbee will officiate.
