Elizabeth M. Gemmel, 98, formerly of New London died on Monday, February 3, 2020 at Gaymont Nursing Home, Norwalk. She was born on May 16, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Erich and Louise (Schmidt) Dumke.
Elizabeth was a 1940 graduate of Wellington High School. She married the late George F. Gemmel Jr. and spent her life devoted to her husband and children. She was actively involved in the New London United Methodist Church, a past president of Methodist Women, O.E.S. Halcyon Chapter 347, and the American Legion Auxiliary, post #292. She spent time at the Norwalk Senior Center, a member of the pinochle club. She was a brownie and girl scout leader.
Elizabeth is survived by children; Betty (James) Caughey, Karen Clevenger, and Beverly (Jonathan) Morgan; 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; siblings, Eric Dumke and Elsie Hammond.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings; infant sister Betty Jane, Thelma Nielsen, Elaine Hovanitz, Dorris Manning, Arthur Dumke, Edna Hill and Eleanore Repp, son-in-law, Jonny Clevenger.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 4-7 PM with Order of Eastern Star service being held at 6:45 PM at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St. New London, OH, where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Grove Street Cemetery.
