Eugene P. Doughty

Eugene P. Doughty, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, in his home surrounded by his family.  He was born to the late George A. and Marie A. (Haas) Doughty on March 9, 1932, in Norwalk, Ohio.  Gene was a lifelong area resident and member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Norwalk, Ohio.  He was a Veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean War.  

Gene was a volunteer fire fighter for the City of Norwalk.   He co-founded Car Coddlers of Ohio in 1964.  He also co-founded and helped build the Norwalk Conservation Club.  Gene designed the blueprints for the new Norwalk Furniture building where he worked as a Plant Engineer from 1962 until his retirement in 1994.  He was a member of the F.O.E. Aerie 711, Norwalk, Ohio and was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Ken Burr Bell Post 41, Norwalk, Ohio.

Gene enjoyed traveling with his wife, Shirley to many different places, including his favorite location, in the Canadian Rockies.  He also enjoyed fishing, going on cruises, working on cars, especially his 1958 Oldsmobile Holiday 88.  Gene loved spending time with his family, going to his grandchildren’s activities and events, and he and his wife wintered in Naples, Florida for 15 years. 

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Shirley N. (Bauer) Doughty of Norwalk, Ohio; by his daughter, Leslie L. Neuberger (Gary A. Rash) of Norwalk, Ohio; by his 4 grandchildren, Justin (Kelly) Neuberger of Monroeville, Ohio, Ryan (Megan) Neuberger of Columbus, Ohio, Alex Neuberger of Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Kami Neuberger of Norwalk, Ohio.  He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Hunter Conley, Layne, Payton, and Kailyn Neuberger; by his nephew, James R. (Cheryl) Doughty of Monroeville, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Robert G. and Dorothy M. Doughty, and by his niece Janet M. Doughty. 

Friends may call on Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio 44857.   A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019 in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio 44857 with Fr. Andrew Wellmann officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery.
