Frances Maxine Lee, 93, of Wellington, died Monday, November 30 at Wesleyan Village. Born on June 10, 1927, in Hartland Township, she was the daughter of Emmor and Evora (nee Beckham) Wolfe. Maxine was a 1944 graduate of New London High School. Following graduation, she attended Nurses Training at Huron Road Hospital in Cleveland graduating in 1949.
Maxine worked as an RN at Allen Memorial Hospital in Oberlin until the opening of the Wellington Community Hospital. She was dedicated to the new hospital and worked there from the day it opened until it’s closing in 1990. In her long career she rose to the position of Director of Nursing Services and the hospital’s final Acting Chief Administrator.
Maxine was an active member of First Congregational United Church of Christ and, with her husband, volunteered with the Wellington Office of Aging during her retirement.
Maxine’s greatest joy was in spending time with family. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and gathering with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Maxine is survived by her loving children, Sandra (Ted) Clawson, of Texas, Tom (Jean) Lee, of Litchfield, and Steve (Diana) Lee, of Bay Village; grandchildren, Sandra (Dave) Noall, Scott (Katie) Lee, Megan Clawson, Adam (Laura) Clawson, Marissa Lee, and Jack Lee; great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Abigail Noall, Hunter, Maxwell, and Ava Lee, and Emma Clawson. Maxine is also survived by sisters-in-law, Beverly Lee and Libby Vickers, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Harry “J.R.” Lee and siblings, Edna Olcott, Ilo Dolbee, Dorothy Rogers, Clair Wolfe, Earline Linder, and Eleanor Landis.
