Gene Marcellus Arthur, 95, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on November 18, 2019.
Gene was born in 1924 in Spring Grove, IN, to the late Arthur “Art” and Lavon (Ohmart) Arthur. Following his childhood on the family farm near North Manchester, IN, Gene graduated from Tri State College in Angola, IN, in 1945 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Upon graduation, he started a photography studio in North Manchester; but after marriage to Sue Robison in 1949, he sold the business and began working as a mechanical engineer with various companies who supplied the auto industry, namely General Tire, Essex Wire, Monroe Auto, Gould Inc., and Clevite Corporation. In the course of his work, Gene developed expertise in the area of shock dampening and became a respected resource among client companies such as Caterpillar Inc.
Gene and Sue had five children together; the family lived in North Manchester, IN, Logansport, IN, and Hillsdale, MI, before finally settling in Norwalk, OH, in 1962. Gene was predeceased by his wife Sue and is survived by his sons Samuel (Judith Kong) of Wilmington DE, Joseph (Meta Fraser) of Sao Paulo Brazil, and John (Colleen Conley) of Milan OH and by his daughters Dinah (Gary Schaszberger) of Carlisle PA and Sarah (Dale Shaw) of Indianapolis IN, as well as a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His faith in Jesus Christ was a defining aspect of Gene’s life. He invested himself fully in the life of Calvary Baptist Church in Norwalk, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. As deeply spiritual parents, he and Sue saw their faith reproduced and expressed in their five children and their respective families.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 10, 2019, from 10:00 am until the time of the service and celebration of Gene’s life beginning at 11:00am at Calvary Baptist Church, 250 Benedict Ave, Norwalk OH. Burial will follow the service in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that honorary donations be made in Gene Arthur's name to Samaritan's Purse, P.O.
