George E. Walker, 93 of Greenwich passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022, at UH Ashland Samaritan surrounded by his family. He was born August 1, 1929, in Ashland County to the late Marian (Hulme) and Ralph Walker. Mr. Walker was a graduate of Greenwich High School, class of 1947 and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Part of his assignments in the Army included infantry, tank regimen and later cemetery duties. Once he returned from the Army, he soon worked at U-Brand in Ashland until his retirement. George was a member of the Ruggles Church and served as Ruggles Township Trustee for 20 years and was on the board for the Rural Lorain County Water Authority for several years. He also coached baseball for Ruggles Troy youth league for many years. Most of all, George loved being outdoors. He worked the family farm his entire life and enjoyed cutting wood, fishing, and hunting, especially for coon and groundhogs. He cherished his family and their time together, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Alice (Ringler) Walker whom he married October 6, 1953; children, Tracy (Lynn) Walker of Greenwich, and Kelly (Randy) Nelson of Ashland; 5 grandchildren, Ashley (Michael) Loucka, Adam (Leslie) Walker, Emma, Andrew and Maxwell Pollander; 1 great granddaughter, Avery Loucka. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Harold and Eugene Walker and Millie Shays.
Private family services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 at the Ruggles Church with burial at Savannah Cemetery with military rites.
