Gerald L. Ackerman, 87, of Norwalk, passed away Sunday evening, April 10, 2022, at Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
Jerry was born on December 16, 1934, in Norwalk, OH to the late Leon and Cecelia (Durnwald) Ackerman.
Jerry graduated from Norwalk St. Paul High School in 1953 and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed at Scott Paper Company in Sandusky and retired from Norwalk Furniture in 1997. Jerry was a faithful member of St. Paul Catholic Church, lifelong members of the VFW and AMVETS, member of the Knights of Columbus, Eagles, and served two terms as Commander for the American Legion. In his spare time, he enjoyed golf, bowling, and just generally staying busy.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Joan (O’Dell) Ackerman, who he married on July 22, 1983; children, Mike (Diane) Ackerman of Bellevue, Ken (Tina) Ackerman of Gulf Port, MS, Jennifer (Ron) Ackerman of Valparaiso, IN, Mark (Renee) Pleasnick of Columbus, and Christine Pleasnick of Norwalk; 8 grandchildren, Brian (Tia), Scott (Shannon), Luke, Kate, Amber, Melissa, Miriam, and Mary; 3 great-grandchildren, Jake, Cole, and Ernie, and brothers, Jim (Jan) Ackerman of Gainesville, FL, and Terry Ackerman of Columbus.
In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Lester.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022, from 10:30 until 12:30 at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main Street, Norwalk, OH 44857. A short prayer service will be held at 12:30 at the funeral home before the procession to St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk, OH 44857 for a 1:00 pm Funeral Mass. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery.
