Gertrude Leona (Andrew) Sparks

Gertrude Leona Sparks, 95, of Ashland, formerly of Greenwich, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Brookwood Place, Ashland, Ohio.  She was born February 11, 1928, to the late Fannie Mae (Snider) Andrew and Willard McVay Andrew, Sr.  She was a graduate of Greenwich High School, Class of 1946.  She worked at Curfmans Sparkle Market while in school and later was secretary at the South Central Elementary School for 20 years.  Gertrude married Keith Sparks on December 4, 1948.  He preceded her in death in 2020, after 71 years of marriage.  Keith and Gert ran a Sohio distributing business for many years, with Gert doing all of the bookwork with perfect audits every year. 

Gertrude attended Greenwich Church of Christ while living in Greenwich, and later attended Ashland Christian Church after retiring to Ashland.  They loved Ashland.  She loved to ice skate, and to bowl and to travel with Keith. 

Gertrude is survived by two daughters,  Judith (Thomas) Putt of Greenwich and Sheron (Dave) Molloy of Cincinnati and  son-in-law Mark Roscoe, of Normal, Illinois; grandchildren, Jason Putt, Amy Roscoe Yacucci, Andy Roscoe, Jaime Lay, Kari Hood, Kelly Emilianowicz and Aaron Britton; 9 great grandchildren, and sister, Clara Mae Walter. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Patricia Sparks Roscoe; granddaughter, Kelly Putt, and brother, Willard McVay Andrew Jr. 

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 1:00 pm at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main Street, Greenwich. Burial will follow the service at Edwards Grove Cemetery, Greenwich.   Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter, 480 W.
