Harles Vanderpool Jr., known to most as Junior, died Thursday, August 3, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. Born on July 5, 1936 in Hueysville, KY, he was the son of the late Harles and Myrtle (nee Reed) Vanderpool Sr. Junior moved to the Greenwich area as a youth and attended Greenwich High School.
Junior worked at Empire Reeves Steel Mill for 36 years as a carpenter and painter. He was also a farmer. Faith was an important part of Junior’s life and he was a faithful member of Guinea Corner Church of God in Willard. He enjoyed traveling and camping, listening to bluegrass and attending bluegrass festivals. Junior also liked to go to garage sales and work in his garden. Most of all he cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. In life there are joys and sorrow; an hour before he took his final breath his family welcomed the birth of his great great granddaughter, Journey Mae Vanderpool.
Survivors include his children, Linda (David) Seidel, John (Sherry) Vanderpool, Tim Vanderpool, all of Greenwich, Kay (Rod) Zellner, of North Fairfield, and Debbie (Jeff) Gilbert, of Greenwich; several grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Jean Vanderpool; and a sister, Glessie (Charles) Slone; and numerous nieces and nephews. Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Harles and Myrtle Vanderpool Sr.; loving wife of 62 years, Charlotte (nee Sutton) Vanderpool, in 2015; son, Bob Vanderpool; daughter, Sarah Vanderpool; grandson Cody Zellner; brother, Rodney; daughter-in-law Brenda Vanderpool.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, August 7, from 4-8 p.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St, Greenwich, where services will be held on Tuesday, beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery.
