Helen E. Pry, 95, of Greenwich, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of North Central Ohio. On January 19, 1928, Helen was born in Plymouth, Ohio to the late Clifford and Hazel (nee Keifer) Ewing. She attended Bucyrus Schools before moving and graduating from Tiro High School. She married the love of her life, John W. Pry on April 17, 1948 and together on April 1, 1950 they purchased an 80 acre farm, where she has lived for 73 years.
Employed by the Crestview School District, Helen worked as a cashier and cook for over 30 years. She was definition of a farm girl – born and raised on a farm and continued throughout her life farming, raising livestock and grain.
Helen was a member of the Adario United Methodist Church, the Adario Mother’s Club and the Rome Country Club, which was a group of country women who coordinated luncheons at local auctions. Helen was also involved with the Ox Roast in Shiloh, spearheading the event for many years.
She will be remembered as a super baker. Helen also loved to make blankets, including winter blankets for the needy and ones for the Richland County Home.
Survivors include her children, Cheryl (Dennis) Gherman, of Wilmington and Terry Pry, of Greenwich; grandson, Eric Gherman and great granddaughter, Kara Gherman. Helen is also survived by several nieces and nephews, her special friend, Bonnie Newman, and close family friends, Marie and Doc Plank the Cuppy Family and Clawson Family. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, Dennis; and 7 siblings, June, Donald, Robert, Howard, Clarence, Marion and an infant sister, Jane.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 11 am until the 1 pm funeral service at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich, with Pastor Ed Stockwell officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth and the family invites everyone to a luncheon prepared at the Adario Town Hall following the committal service.
