Ivy Lily Dobney, 100, died on May 19, 2017, at home in Brighton Township. She was born January 7, 1917, in Lorain, Ohio, to Leslie and Lily (Gower) Emary. She grew up in Amherst and graduated from Camden High School in 1934. On October 29, 1938, she married Dexter E. Dobney. They lived in Amherst until moving to a small farm in Brighton Township in 1971.
While her husband was serving in World War II, she worked at Allen's Shoes in Lorain. In 1966 she began working for Faflik Shoes where she became the first woman in management for the chain. She was a long time member of Camden Baptist Church where she served as an AWANA leader and Sunday School teacher. She loved her Lord, her family, her cottage on Middle Bass Island, her flowers, and a good book.
Mrs. Dobney is survived by her four children; Judith D. Kaiser (Richard T. Laux, deceased) of Elyria, Jeanne D. (Donald) Gardner of Brighton Township, Joyce D. (Douglas) Gardner of Brighton Township, and Jonathan Dexter (Elaine nee Fahler) of Cedarville; her eleven grandchildren; Richard (Glenda nee Brooks) Kaiser, Rebecca Gardner, David (Kristen) Gardner, Jennifer (Nicholas) Roll, Joshua (Katherine) Gardner, Bradford (Ashley), Joel (Laura), Bryan (Trixie), Jared (Janie), Brayden, and Judson Dobney; her seventeen great-grandchildren; her two great-great-grandsons; her sister-in-law Marion Dobney and ten nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty five years, Dexter on February 2, 1974, her sister Florence Wentzel, her great-granddaughter Lily Gardner, her four brothers-in-law, her two sisters-in-law, and two nieces.
Friends may call on Sunday, May 28, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 5:00 pm at Camden Baptist Church, 17901 State Route 511, Wellington.
