Joann Sherman Obituary

Joann W. Sherman, 88, of Norwalk, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at the Laurels of New London, with her loving husband by her side.  She was born on August 9, 1932 in Lima, Ohio to the late Lewis and Ethel (Fike) White.  She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1950 and continued her education at St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Toledo. 

Joann grew up a “city girl”, she met her husband Joe Sherman in high school, they were married in September of 1953 and spent 67 years together building a wonderful “country life”.  She had worked as a nurse at Bellevue Hospital and Fisher Titus Medical Center. 

Joann had a passion for learning, (nursing, farming, music, gardening and much more).  She loved spending time with family and was always playing games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Her pranks always made birthdays and holidays more memorable and she always had a smile on her face.  She took life by the horns and lived it to the fullest.  Joann loved to travel.  She had been to Europe, England, Alaska and China, and spent many years traveling in their motorhome.  She was also a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Norwalk.  

Survivors include her husband, Joe Sherman; their son, Jeff Sherman; his children (her grandchildren), Chris (Maria) Sherman, Kyle (Lauren) Sherman, Tana (Brian) Hayes, Tyler (Rachel) Sherman and Tara Sherman; son, Jere Sherman; his children (her grandchildren), Jeremy (Larissa) Sherman, Jennifer (Keith) Welch and John Sherman; son, Jim (Jeanne)Sherman; their son (her grandson), Matthew Sherman; son, John (Kelly) Sherman; their children (her grandchildren), Alex Sherman and Kelsey (John) Mlinarcik; and 12 great grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents, Joann was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Maricle.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Ave., Norwalk with Pastor Ann Marshall officiating.  Guests are invited to casually arrive for a walk-through beginning at 10 a.m. to allow for guests to take their seats, and to prevent congregating from occurring in the lobby.  An inurnment will follow the service in Bellevue Cemetery.  All attendees are required to bring and wear a mask and practice all social distancing and mass gathering guidelines.  Memorial contributions if desired may be made to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
