Larry "Don" Helms

Larry “Don” Helms, 78, of Bailey Lakes, died Tuesday, May 25 at University Hospitals in Ashland. Born in Cleveland on March 17, 1943, he was the son of the late James P. and Amanda (nee Fraley) Helms. Don attended Vinson High School in Huntington, WV and Dawson Bryant High School, in Coal Grove, OH.

For over 37 years, he worked at Garber Company in Ashland as a journeyman printer.  He also worked at Sabin Robbins in Mansfield. Don is a member of the Ashland Worship Center. He will always be remembered for his love and collection of classic and muscle cars.

Survivors include his loving wife, Marla; children, Jeff Helms, Tim Helms and Dena LeFever; grandchildren, Ashleigh McConkey, of PA, Nick Helms, Tanner Adkins, Reece Adkins, Josh Dickinson, Silas Helms, Lindsey Bowersock, Danielle Mechling, McKenzie Mechling and Leland Mechling, all of Ashland, and 4 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jimmy Caines and Charles Caines.

Services will be held on Tuesday, June 1 from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. Funeral Service at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London, with Bishop Ted Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland County Memorial Park. The Helms family suggests donations in memory of Don be made to the Ashland Worship Center, 1420 Cottage Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
