Lester James Chase, Sr., 96, died peacefully on July 15, 2024 at Providence Care Center in Sandusky. Lester was born May 5, 1928, in North Fairfield. His parents were Earl and Eunice Chase. He married Thetis Chamberlin in 1948 and were married for 62 years. He retired from New Departure, having worked there for 44 years, and was also an Army veteran.
He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the Bronson-Norwalk Conservation Club. He volunteered at the BNCC club for many years and became a lifetime member. The shelter at the club is named the Lester Chase Shelter House in his honor.
Lester enjoyed woodworking and working on his jigsaw puzzles. He loved going out to eat at the Pizza Post and the ladies there grew very fond of him.
Lester leaves behind his four children: Deborah (Vince) Davis, Hutto, Texas; Lester (Debra) Chase, Jr., Monroeville, Ohio; Robert (Nancy) Chase, Fair Oaks, California; and Cynthia (Kris) Lynch, Mint Hill, North Carolina. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Thetis, and his seven older siblings, Doris, Millie, Aletha, Elsie, Lura, Gerald, and Gail.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. (noon), on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk and entombment will follow in Meadow Green Cemetery on Bogart Rd., in Huron.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to The Carriage House – Fisher-Titus Foundation, 272 Benedict Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio, 44857.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Carriage House for their love and care of our father in the months prior to his passing; to the staff of Fisher-Titus Medical Center, and to Providence Care Center who cared for him this last month. And to the employees of the Pizza Post who always made him feel special whenever he visited.
