Madlene Chavarria Obituary

Madlene Chavarria, 78, a lifelong resident of New London, died Sunday, April 10, 2022, at Twilight Gardens in Norwalk. Born on April 21, 1943 in Floyd County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Eva (nee Spencer) Carroll.  

Madlene worked as a nurse’s aide at the Elms Retirement Village in Wellington for over 20 years, retiring in 2006. She enjoyed playing BINGO and other games of chance and will be remembered for her love of donuts. More than anything, Madlene centered her life around her family and cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

Survivors include her children, Patricia Finkel, of New London, Floyd Schaffer, of Ashland, Frank Schaffer, of Greenwich, and Robert Schaffer, of Norwalk; grandchildren, David Youngless Jr, of Columbus, Christopher Youngless, Jamie Schaffer, and Rhonda Jones, all of New London, Justin Schaffer, of Columbus, Devin Schaffer, Tylor Schaffer, Brittany Schaffer, Isaac Schaffer, all of Greenwich, and Philip Schaffer, of Marietta; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings Verna Lambert, Phyllis Carroll, Spencer Carroll, all of Wellington, and Eddie Carroll, of Sullivan. Madlene was preceded in death by two husbands, Floyd Wesley Schaffer, in 1979, and Joe Chavarria, in 1990; daughter, Darla Jones; grandson, Tim Schaffer; and siblings, Patsy Hamilton, Wanda Brown, and Junior Carroll.
