Mary Margaret (McKown) Barker

Mary Margaret Barker, 90, of New London, Ohio passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 26, 1931 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late John T. and Agnes (Phillips) McKown.

Mary was a strong, independent, and fearless, loving mother, who was always devoted in her faith, and to her family. She will be fondly remembered for her cookies, especially chocolate chip, canning, love of westerns and gardening skills.

Mary worked and retired from Kent Sporting Goods in New London and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, also in New London.

Survivors include her children, Guy (Mary Foster) Barker of Wellington, Becky (Bruce) Hite of Norwalk, Gary (Linda) Barker of Portage Lakes, Denise (Rock) Huff of New London and Timothy (Holly) Barker of New London; grandchildren, Brandon, Matt and Lauren Barker, Kimberly and Brad Hite, Aaron, Brian and Sarah Barker, Michael and Erik Willis, Tylor, Foster, Morgan and Jared Barker, Brook, Gabby and Jake Huff; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; siblings, Dennis McKown of Toledo, Gerald McKown of Plymouth and Ellen Parkinson of Plymouth.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Oren Eugene “Babe” Barker in 1993, several brothers and sisters, and grandsons, Chris Hite and Shawn Willis.

Visitation will be held on Labor Day, Monday, September 6, 2021 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, New London. A funeral mass will be held the following day, Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, New London, beginning at 11 a.m. with Fr. Brickner officiating. Burial will follow the service in Grove Street Cemetery, New London. Memorial contributions if desired may be directed to the funeral home in care of the family.
